Charlottesville Blogger Nominated for Parents Magazine 2013 Blog Awards
OnePartSunshine.com, a Charlottesville green parenting blog, was nominated for Parents Magazine’s 2013 Blog Awards. The blog is one of five finalists in the category “Most Likely to Inspire You to Change the World.”
Cindy Young, owner of One Part Sunshine, started the blog in an effort to help parents minimize their children’s exposure to harmful toxins. The blog is a written account of Young’s personal journey to raise her own children in the safest and most natural way possible. It covers interesting topics about green living and parenting, such as creative ways to play with your kids outside and safe ways to clean toys and baby gear.
“This blog is a way for me to share my experiences and hopefully inspire other parents to make their own changes to grow green kids,” Young said. “I try to choose only the safest food, clothes, toys and other products for my children. I strive to teach them an appreciation for nature and for protecting our environment. And I try to DIY as much as possible, whether by making my own deodorant, cooking from scratch or creating handmade gifts.”
In addition to a blog, One Part Sunshine is a shopping tool, resource and community for parents who want to raise their children safely and naturally. The site shows parents where to find the best organic and natural products for baby, mom and pregnancy and includes a library of articles and tips that make it easy to be a green parent. The site’s articles cover everything from what ingredients to avoid while pregnant to how to choose safe toys.
