Gift Ideas for the Naturalist Mom

by onepartsunshine, in category * FAVORITE POSTS *, Gift Ideas, Green Holidays

With Mother’s Day only a week away, I thought I would post a list of gift ideas for moms who love nature and the outdoors. This post is in no way a hint for my husband and children (did that sound believable?). If you know an amateur naturalist or someone who loves hiking, gardening, nature art and photography, reading about the outdoors, or just being outside, then read on. I made sure to include ideas that are no-cost and low-cost. I also tried to include gifts that are eco-friendly and don’t involve purchasing more stuff.

More All-Natural Non-Toxic Cologne for Men

by onepartsunshine, in category Green Holidays, Health and Beauty

Last year, I shared a post with ten non-toxic men’s colognes for Father’s Day. Since publishing that post, I have removed a couple of the colognes after discovering they weren’t so natural after all. But I have also discovered four new options, thanks to my readers. You can find these all-natural, non-toxic men’s colognes listed below. I realize that it’s probably a little late to get any of these for Christmas (unless you have Amazon prime) but maybe you know a special guy with a birthday coming up (like my husband). And please continue to let me know if you come across any other great finds.

10 Non-Toxic Men’s Colognes for a Green Father’s Day

by onepartsunshine, in category Green Holidays, Health and Beauty

I am a firm believer that smell is very important to a relationship. If your partner stinks, it isn’t likely that things are going to get very romantic. It isn’t surprising that I feel this way because a recent study suggests that fertile women have a heightened sense of smell when it comes to male pheromones, especially during the latter part of their menstrual cycle. So number one on my list of Father’s Day presents for my husband is a nice-smelling cologne. However, I don’t want my gift to make him sick, which is exactly what can happen with conventional colognes and perfumes.

How to have a handmade, non-toxic, natural Easter

by onepartsunshine, in category Green Holidays

Easter is my son’s favorite holiday. Of course, he loves the candy (a tradition I couldn’t quite give up) but he also loves the thrill of the hunt. We try to hit at least two or three egg hunts every year, choosing ones that are a bit more difficult than picking eggs up in a field. “The Easter Bunny” sets up a very tricky egg hunt in our house, often camouflaging the eggs or putting them in hard to reach places. And although these hunts are challenging, what is more challenging is finding natural, non-toxic treats and gifts to fill the eggs and baskets.

10 Good Deeds to do with Kids this Christmas (Good Deeds #40-49)

by onepartsunshine, in category 52 Good Deeds, Green Holidays

The holiday season is one of the reasons I decided to try to accomplish 52 good deeds in one year. There is no doubt that the opportunities to give back during the months of November and December are plentiful, between the toy drives and charity tree sales. But many people (myself included) forget about giving back during the rest of the year. An excellent solution is to give gifts that give back throughout the rest of the year, like gift cards from Kiva or a gift from a SoKind Registry. Or make environmentally-friendly choices like recycling your tree that will have long-lasting impacts.

10 Good Deeds to Do With Kids This Thanksgiving (Good Deeds #30-39)

by onepartsunshine, in category 52 Good Deeds, Green Holidays

Thanksgiving provides the perfect inspiration to do good deeds. I take advantage of this time of year to talk to my kids about being thankful and appreciating what we have. This often leads to a discussion about the people in this world who aren’t quite as fortunate. Since I can’t afford to buy a turkey for everyone who needs one, we brainstormed some other ways we could brighten someone’s day. We plan to do these ten good deeds (plus more!) over the next two weeks.

How to Be a Toxin-Free Zombie

by onepartsunshine, in category Green Holidays

Trick-or-treating. Halloween parties. Zombie runs. No respectable zombie is complete without fake blood and face paint. Of course, dressing up like a zombie is no fun if your costume is actually making you sick. Conventional face paints and fake blood usually contain heavy metals such as lead, chromium, nickel and cobalt. They also have fragrance, dyes, parabens and petroleum products. These hidden toxins have been linked to everything from lifelong skin sensitization to cancer and birth defects.

How to Have an Eco-Friendly Anniversary

by onepartsunshine, in category Green Holidays

My husband and I just celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary! Of course, we have two kids, including a nine-month-old baby, so a romantic getaway wasn’t an option for us. Plus, I wanted to celebrate in an eco-friendly way, which meant avoiding lavish cruises and unnecessary gifts. I came up with the following ideas for celebrating your anniversary in an eco-friendly way.

Reusable, naturally-scented, dryer sheets! I reuse Reusable, naturally-scented, dryer sheets! I reuse my old organic cotton nursing pads (a washcloth works too), clip a safety pin on to reduce static, and put a few drops of essential oil (any fragrance works) on the pad before throwing it in the dryer with the clothes. I’m in a cozy winter mood so I’m using cinnamon oil now. All of my clothes and towels smell like cider! I feel like it does a much better job than my homemade blends. I have dry and acne-prone skin, and this makes my skin feel great. For those of you who are new to the oil cleansing method, it works great for all skin types. Just massage the oil into your dry skin for a minute or so, then cover your face with a hot (but not too hot) washcloth for a minute or so, then wipe all of the makeup and grime off your face. It works great for removing eye makeup too. https://amzn.to/2SbaIqw (affiliate link) #oilcleansing #oilcleansingmethod #naturalskincare #naturalskincareproducts
